Here is what's coming up in Dorchester County on Maryland's Eastern Shore.
There are so many events going on in Dorchester in May that we decided to do a second events newsletter this month! Happy May!

Celebrating new additions at the Dorchester Visitor Center

Thanks to everyone who came and helped us celebrate the great things going on at the Dorchester Visitor Center on May 8. We cut the ribbon on the new Welcome Sign created by Cambridge Architectural using revolutionary technology, the new “Ode to Watermen” mural created by local artist Michael Rosato, and the visitor center’s recent facelift that included replacement of the elevated walkway and fresh paint. Did you know that the tourism industry provides more than one-fifth of the employment in Dorchester County? And that the number of visitors here has been growing? All good news for Dorchester!

Movies, concerts, yoga, and more "At the Sail"

To make better use of our beautiful spaces at the Dorchester Visitor Center, we are lining up some great "At the Sail" events. Here's what's happening this month: 

Two marinas offering free slips in May

ATTENTION BOATERS! Both the Cambridge Municipal Yacht Basin and the Cambridge Yacht Club are offering free transient slip rental every Friday and Saturday night during the month of May (plus Sunday of Memorial Day weekend)!

May 18: Awards ceremony to celebrate the extraordinary efforts made by local citizens to preserve their homes and businesses.

Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Conference
May 18-21: Scholars, historians, and Tubman enthusiasts gather for workshops and more.

At the Sail: Free Family Movie Night - Sing!
May 19: Bring the kids for a free movie on the Choptank River waterfront.

Relay for Life
May 19: Annual fundraising event to end cancer.

Cambridge Walking Tour
May 20: One-hour tour of historic High Street led by a costumed docent.

Skipjack Sail
May 20: Join a two-hour sail on the Skipjack Nathan of Dorchester. Must register in advance.

Afternoon Paint at the Wine Bar
May 20: An afternoon of painting and drinking wine. Bring home your work of art. No art experience required.

Strawberry Festival at Emily's Produce
May 20: It's National Pick Strawberries Day and the UPick patch will be open.


Music on the Nanticoke Concert
May 20: Mid-Shore Community Band performs on the waterfront in historic Vienna. Free.
Bird Walk
May 21: Join an expert birder for a bird watching trip through Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge. No experience needed.

John Wesley Wright Concert
May 21: Performance by Wright, a member of the acclaimed American Spiritual Ensemble, and students from Salisbury University.


At the Sail: Waterfront Concert with Blackwater
May 26: Local favorites Blackwater performs on the waterfront during this free, family-friendly concert. 200 U.S. flags from the Flags for Heroes program will provide a spectacular backdrop.

Friday Night Live Comedy Series
May 26: Amateur comedians will take part in an open mic challenge where the audience vote helps determine the winner.

Beckwith Strawberry Festival
May 27: Strawberries, strawberry pies, strawberry shortcake, homemade soups, chicken salad sandwiches, hot dogs and more. Large outdoor flea market and crafts, too.

Americana Pickers and Vendors Marketplace
May 27: Multiple vendors selling antiques, primitives, books, and more.

Memorial Day Tribute
May 29: Remember the reason for the holiday during an 11am service at Long Wharf Park in Cambridge with American Legion Post #91.

Holiday Inn Express Grand Re-Opening
May 31: Celebrate the just completed renovations and updates. Free and open to all.
